Data Product Documents

Our Data Product Documents describe each of the data products we plan to produce, starting soon after launch of the first EOS platform in 1998. Our documents provide the background information, objectives, theoretical basis of the algorithms, uncertainties, assumptions, data dependencies, and output product characteristics.

Each document has been developed by one or more members of the EOS Volcanology Team. The name(s) of these people are shown below in parentheses after each document name, followed by the date of the latest revision of the document.

Most of the documents are available in electronic format (Acrobat PDF, Postscript PS, or GIF) from this Web site. To avoid copyright violations, the ones indicated by the icon: are only available in paper format (send us your mailing address and indicate which DPD numbers you want).

We had originally planned to use HDF format for our data products, and to use the EOSDIS Distributed Active Archive Centers for archival and distribution, and these older plans are reflected in most of the Data Product Documents. Due to the reconfiguration of the EOS Data and Information Service, we are now planning to distribute most of our products from our own Web servers, and using data formats other than HDF. We are still planning to archive the TOMS SO2 products at the Goddard DAAC.

Our Data Product Documents will continue to be updated and available here at this Web site. Data volumes and product frequencies are estimates only, subject to change!

The documents are divided into two groups, Part I: Surface Volcanism, and Part II: Eruption Clouds and Volcanic Gases, and each part has its own product summary.
