One of the key aspects of the GLOBE program is to involve students from outside the United
States in the collection of science data. Several of the EOS Volcanology Team travel abroad to
visit interesting volcanoes - here we see Bill Rose near Santa María in Guatemala. Bill is
talking to a senior citizen about the effects of an eruption of Santa María in 1929, while
the younger generation looks on. By including senior citizens and school children in the process
of understanding physical processes such as eruptions, GLOBE hopes to increase earth science
awareness as well as aid in the collection of new scientific data. Photo by Jon Fink.
