Teaching K-12
|
Giving K - 12 students a strong background in math, science, and computing is a vital first
step as they try to understand the interrelationships of the Earth System. Without such a
background, it will be much harder for these students as professionals, parents, and voters to
make educated decisions about the role of EOS, global change, and the effects that humans have on
the environment. The EOS Volcanology Team starts teaching students at a young age, including them
in a series of workshops and open houses that tell them about the different types of rocks, and
the different volcanoes that these rocks come from. We hope that other EOS Teams develop similar
outreach efforts, and we would welcome collaboration with other groups on Global Change education
in the schools. Photo by Pete Mouginis-Mark.
