Karymsky Volcano, Kamchatka (273K image)
In April 1994, the Space Shuttle Endeavor carried an imaging radar system called SIR-C / X-SAR. The X-SAR experiment operated at 3 cm wavelength, and has produced some interesting images of volcanoes in Kamchatka. This is an area where several of the Volcanology IDS Team conducted field work in 1993, and we are hoping to use these images to further understand the geology of this area which has rarely been visited by western volcanologists.
